THE DANISH KNOWLEDGE CENTER ON AGEING

is an independent clearing house for issues concerning the elderly.
From spring 2009 the center has merged with research institution 'The Danish Gerontological Institute'. The clearing house collects, develops and disseminates knowledge about ageing and elderly people. Our knowledge is used by professionals on age issues, decision makers, organizations, educational institutions, researchers, business and commerce, media. The clearing house has been established with funding from the Ministry of Social Affairs.

The clearing house
The Danisk Knowledge Center on Ageing is a clearing house for issues on the elderly. This means that we systematically gather and disseminate knowledge on research, experiments and developmental projects, which may provide some of the answers to questions about the elderly and their conditions.

Our users
Everybody may apply to the clearing house concerning matters about elderly people, old age and ageing. Most requests come from people, who are involved in various kinds of services for the elderly, i.e. professionals in local authorities and county authorities, such as:

  • Professionals involved in age concern
  • Decision makers
  • Organizations
  • The trades and industries
  • Educational institutions
  • Research and development institutions
  • Journalists

The employees of the clearing house collect and go through the latest research results and practical experiences - and disseminate this information. We are always on the look-out for new tendencies and initiatives. We impart both our own and other people's research results as well as knowledge and experiences from experimental and developmental work in Denmark.

We disseminate our knowledge in a number of ways:

Who are we?
The professional profile of the staff combines expertise on social and cultural science with the emphasis on the human aspect. The point of reference for our professional work is that older people should be regarded as individuals with varying resources, and that the elderly should be given the opportunity of creating a good future for themselves - with the help and support from others and from society as a whole.
